Leaders inaugurate Samabay Bazar at Savar


With a view to provide quality goods comparatively at low cost, Dhaka Credit inaugurated the second branch of Samabay Bazar [cooperative shop] at Savar on August 26, 2016.

As the chief guest, mayor of Savar municipality Alhaz Md. Abdul Goni inaugurated the shop with Dhaka Credit’s president Babu Markus Gomes and many others local and credit union leaders. President Gomes presided over the event while some 3,000 people were present. Previously the Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited, Dhaka [Dhaka Credit] started first cooperative shop in its headquarters located in the core of Dhaka city.  

‘Starting such a cooperative shop [Samabay Bazar] at Savar with a new concept is a history,’ said the chief guest. Praising the nation building activities of Dhaka Credit, he expressed gratitude to the leaders of Dhaka Credit for contributing a lot in economic development, education, and in the process of sustainable development of the society in Bangladesh.

Md. Ruhul Amin, joint registrar of the Divisional Samabay Office; Salim Mia, panel mayor and councilor of 8 No. Word under Savar municipality; Nirmol Rozario, chairman of the Central Association of Christian Cooperatives (CACCO) Limited; Michael Gomes, president of Dharenda Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited; Anil Leo Costa, vice-chair of the Metropolitan Christian Co-operative Housing Society Limited; Tapan Thomas Rozario, president of Savar YMCA; Bilash B. Gomes, advisor of Dhaka Credit; Protap Augustine Gomes, ex-president of Dharenda Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited were present there as special guests. Treasurer of Dhaka Credit Bipul Lawrence Gomes concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks.  Dhaka Credit’s secretary Ignatious Hemanta Corraya facilitated the program.

Some 40 youths, majority of females, have been employed in the cooperative shop to take care of the sale and other arrangements.


Following the inaugural program, Dhaka Credit conducted an education seminar in the campus of Dhaka Credit’s Savar Service Center adjacent to the cooperative shop. Dhaka Credit’s director Pankaj Gilbert Costa arranged a multi-media presentation on the credit union’s loan and savings products, and different projects and services for the Christian participants who intended to be its members.
